Pine Cone Rally

How to play

1. Join your team

Scan the QR code on your team card, or go to the rally site and type your 6-letter team code. Everyone on the team can join on their own phone with the same code.

If it says the rally isn't open, the organizers haven't started it yet. Check back later.

2. Do the challenges

Your team page lists every challenge. Tap one to read the details and send your answer. The icon tells you what kind of answer it needs:

  • 📸
    Photo
Tap the challenge, then take a photo or pick one from your camera roll.
  • 🎥
    Video
Record a video or pick one you already shot. Big videos can take a minute to upload, so keep the screen on until it says Submitted!
  • ✏️
    Text answer
Type your answer and send it. Capital letters and extra spaces don't matter.
  • ☑️
    Multiple choice
Pick one of the options and send it.
  • 📦
    Judged in person
Nothing to upload. Do the challenge, then bring what it asks for (for example something to be weighed) to the judges.

You can send more than one photo, video or answer for a challenge. The judges score your best one.

Stops and unlock codes

Some rallies are split into stops. Each stop has directions for getting there and a set of challenges to do once you arrive. Different teams may start at different stops.

  • Your first stop is open from the start. Later stops show a 🔒 until you unlock them.
  • Each locked stop says what opens it. Usually you type its code in the Got a code? box on your team page. You get the code either in the app, once you've marked every challenge at your current stop as done, or posted at the location.
  • Some stops open only after you submit every challenge at your current stop: either by themselves, or once you've submitted and also entered the code.
  • Challenges under Anytime can be done whenever you like.

3. Mark your progress

Each challenge has two buttons so your team can keep track:

  • ✓ We did it marks the challenge as done. You can undo this.
  • 🔒 Submit as final (or Handed to judges for in-person challenges) means you're finished with it. The challenge locks and you can't add or change anything. If you locked it by mistake, ask an organizer to reopen it.

These buttons are optional. Anything you send is judged whether or not you press them.

4. Scoring

Scores stay secret until the end of the night, when the organizers show everyone's photos and videos on the big screen and reveal the winners.

Tips

  • Keep the page open until you see Submitted! after an upload.
  • If an upload fails, tap to try again. Weak signal is the usual cause, so try again when you have more bars.
  • Keep your team card handy in case you need to rejoin.
